In English bärlauch is called ramsons or wild garlic, or sometimes even bear’s garlic (which is the translation most similar to the German name); that’s a lot of names for something I had never heard of before moving to Germany. The edible leaves are pungent, with a flavor that falls somewhere between garlic and wild onions.

Street art in Leipzig
I recently visited Leipzig for the first time in more than 10 years. Back then the city was a mishmosh of decrepit old buildings, hideously ugly GDR-era new buildings, and a lot of construction.

Ringing in the New Year in Munich
Surprisingly, there isn’t an official fireworks display in Munich for New Year’s, even though it was probably the most fireworks I had ever seen on a single occasion.
War zone, or Munich at New Year? [VIDEO]
Happy 2011.
Berlin: big city Christmas lights
This year we kicked of the Christmas market season in Berlin, where I fell in love with the market in front of the Rotes Rathaus.
Munich: ’tis the season and all that
There are basically three things I’d like to communicate with this post.
