On our way home from Birmingham, we stopped to do a little hiking on the Ingleton Waterfalls Trail in Yorkshire.
The four-mile trail is circular and, as the name would suggest, passes by a series of waterfalls.
Hikers are charged a fee (£6 per adult when we went) to access the trail, which doesn’t seem to deter the crowds – there were plenty of people out enjoying the sun and waterfalls with us. The second half of the trail was slightly less busy than the beginning.
The route made for a very pleasant afternoon of hiking. The trail is well-maintained, and there are a couple of refreshment stands along the way.
There are many nice spots to stop and sit, as well. We found ourselves wishing we had brought books or a picnic lunch with us, and budgeted more time for lounging around by the waterfalls in addition to hiking.
Around half-way through the route you find yourself hiking through a farm with panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. Do you think sheep appreciate a good view?
The end of the trail takes you through the tiny town of Ingelton, home to a couple of wee cafes and gift shops, on your way back to the parking lot.
Stunning photos: Yorkshire really is absolutely beautiful. You’ve made me homesick for England, which doesn’t happen very often! Love your header image of Edinburgh, too.
Thanks, Frau Dietz! I hear there are so many photogenic corners of England that we haven’t seen yet. Something to look forward to.
