Edited to add: Tickets are now sold out for this event. If you’re planning to attend Oktoberfest without reservations, I recommend parking yourself at an unreserved table by three or four in the afternoon at the latest if you want to spend the evening drinking (that’s on weekdays; on weekends, fuggedaboutit). Also, check out my tips for first-time Oktoberfest visitors.
I hear that there are still a few tickets available for the Democrats Abroad tables at Oktoberfest this year. Whether you’re local or coming in from out of town, this is sure to be a great opportunity to party at Oktoberfest with a fun group of people. We went to DA’s Oktoberfest tables last year, and it was a blast.
If you plan to try to spend time in the tents on a weekend, I highly recommend securing a reservation of some sort. I’m guessing there aren’t too many other opportunities still floating around out there at this late date.
When? Sunday, October 3rd, 2010
Where? Schottelhamel Tent, Oktoberfest, Munich (I haven’t been to this tent yet, so can’t comment on it.)
How do I sign up? You can purchase tickets online. [Link removed since tickets are sold out.]
More info from Democrats Abroad:
The Munich Chapter is throwing its second annual Oktoberfest Party at the Wiesn, and the tickets are on sale now! The cost is $60 per seat (dollars, not euros!) and includes 2 liters of beer and half a chicken, as well as a reserved seat in the Schottenhamel tent from 11:30 through the end of the day. (For vegetarians and for those don’t drink beer, there are other options.) It’s the last Sunday of the Oktoberfest (October 3), and this is traditionally a very fun night to be in the Schottenhamel tent – for those of you who’d like to stay all day!
The Munich Chapter will place you with a member of DA-Munich (home stays) if you like, or we will help you with hotel reservations if you prefer that option. More details on that later.
Make sure to buy your tickets TODAY! It is very important for you to buy your seats now if you want to come.
The night before the Oktoberfest Party, Steven Hill will be presenting his book Europe’s Promise: Why the European Way Is the Best Hope in an Insecure Age. The event will take place Saturday evening (October 2) at 7pm near the Wiesn, so come to Munich and make a weekend of it! To read more about Steven’s book check out the UCPress website. Or check out his website.
If you have any questions about the Oktoberfest or Steven Hill events, please contact Quaide Williams, the Munich Chapter Chair: DAG-Munich@DemocratsAbroad.org
Is the start of Oktoberfest really less than three weeks away? Time to start warming up…
Hello.. I tried booking tickets for the Democrats Abroad event, but it wasn’t working. I’m going with my father and looking to not be stuck outside of the tents.. We’ll be there from the opening for a about 4 days. Are there any other sites I can go to for tickets? I got your info from Saron in Amstedram who’s a friend of mine.. Thank you! Shane
Hi Shane – Sounds like the Democrats Abroad event is sold out now. I don’t know of any available reservations for the first four days, but if I hear of any I’ll get back to you.
You won’t be stuck outside the tents if you can make it to Oktoberfest on a weekday, which it sounds like you can. In the early afternoon you can freely wander in and out of tents, and without too much effort you can find a spot at an unreserved table, which you can occupy all evening long as long as you continue to order food and/or drinks. Have a great time!
hello-
i’m one of three americans and one peruvian who decided to book tickets to oktoberfest this year. however, in our short-sighted endeavor, we got the plane tickets before looking into accommodation and are now in a bind – especially being in a group of broke students and not being able to afford the rate the hotels with space are throwing up.
i currently live in madrid, spain, and am a student. i’ve attended da events in this neck of the woods and am glad to see that it’s thriving there in munich! i wish that i would’ve looked into this sooner to grab some tickets to that event…or accommodation in general, hahaha!
any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
@Justin – I’d keep searching in small towns near Munich. There are many that lie on the S-bahn (commuter rail) and train lines that would be convenient enough for Oktoberfest visitors. Also maybe give couch surfing a try. Good luck!
