I’d almost forgotten how much fun sledding is. I’m happy to report that the Bavarian version is almost as good as the Swiss.
Wallberg is on the Tegernsee, about an hour’s drive outside of Munich. A quick 5-10 minute ride up on the gondola is followed by at about a half hour of flying downhill on a tiny wooden sled with absolutely no steering or braking capacity. And oh, the views.
The trail gets a little mogully towards the end of the day, leading to more shouts of “ow” in between giggles and squeals of delight. If you’re lucky, your bum is numb from the cold so you don’t feel the impact as much (well, until the next day).
We just came back from a week of sledding in the Graubunden. One of the best things about Swiss life, for sure.
How fun! Although I don’t know if my body could handle a whole week… I’m a little bruised today.
That looks like so much fun – makes me regret the near snowless winter we’ve had even more.
You can call me Brokeback Kim. Bum is ok though. But my golly, what fun! weeeeeee!
Mark – There’s always next year… fingers crossed for a miraculous reversal of global warming.
Kim – Ow, me too. I seem to be getting stiffer as the day goes on.
Is that the big lake on the left side as you head on the train down to Garmisch? It would be so great to be able to just get up and go do something like that. >sigh
Ian – I think this is a different lake. There are several of them sprinkled around lower Bavaria. And yes, it is so wonderful to have this stuff so close by. We are trying to squeeze as much winter fun as possible out of the mountains while we live near them – who knows how far away they’ll be from our next home.
I think Tegernsee is one of the most beautiful lakes I’ve ever seen… and WHAT a view you had. Wonderful!
