One day our apartment hunt brought us to this building in the hip neighborhood of Schwabing, Munich. As I contemplated having to include the sentence “just look for the Statue of Liberty holding a hoagie” in directions to my apartment, Scott realized that we were at the wrong address for the apartment showing. Whew.

I went to the American Sandwich website, and you know what?
None of their sandwiches appear to be American sandwiches; at least not any kind of sandwich I’ve ever eaten in America!
The “Dean Martin Special” (camembert, cranberries, mozzarella, rucola, dressing, and a glass of whiskey)????
What the heck is that all about?
I am afraid the sandwiches you have eaten in the US are probably served in a famous scottish restaurant chain. And yes, we also have them here in Munich, but no whiskey served at those restaurants (but beer!).
Welcome to Munich by the way.
LOL! I’m doubting camembert has ever made an appearance in a hoagie in the US and A.
Thanks for the welcome, Thomas.
I once had a turkey, brie and cranberry sandwich at a Panera Bread in the US of A.
It’s kind of close…
Hey Jul,
If you and the hubby want a bit of advice or moral support, drop me a line.
By the way, Schwabing ain’t a bad spot to start, but you should look at Haidhausen, (inner) Bogenhausen or Lehel, too.
LOL! That’s hilarious. You can’t get a better landmark than that for your houseguests. (I can hear it now, “What’s a hoagie?” in German). Oh well. Maybe the apt. you settle on will have something equally as fun and tacky.
Do you mean “whew” or do you really mean “oh damn”? 😉
Beth, you totally busted me.
Headbang – thanks for the suggestions. We did indeed end up with a place in one of those neighborhoods.
haha what a picture…
